Description

Stuffed cabbage rolls are a heartwarming dish that combines tender cabbage leaves filled with a savory mixture of ground meat and rice, all smothered in a rich tomato sauce. This comforting recipe is perfect for family dinners or any occasion that calls for a delicious, nostalgic meal. Each bite offers a delightful blend of flavors that brings everyone together around the table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 large green cabbage
  • 1 lb ground beef (or turkey)
  • 1 cup cooked white or brown rice
  • 1 medium onion, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (15 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Boil a large pot of water and add the whole head of cabbage. Cook for 2-3 minutes until outer leaves soften. Gently peel off about ten leaves.
  2. In a skillet over medium heat, sauté onion and garlic until translucent (about 5 minutes). Combine with ground meat, rice, thyme, oregano, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  3. Place two tablespoons of filling on each cabbage leaf's base and roll tightly, tucking in sides. Arrange seam-side down in a baking dish.
  4. Mix crushed tomatoes with tomato paste and pour half over the rolls. Cover with foil.
  5. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for about an hour. Remove foil during the last fifteen minutes to brown the tops.
  6. Serve hot, drizzled with remaining sauce.
