Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large Vidalia or yellow onion
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- Cooking spray or olive oil
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup (add hot sauce for spice)
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Cut off about half an inch from the top of the onion, keeping the root intact. Slice down into quarters without cutting through the root; gently separate each petal.
- In one bowl, combine flour, paprika, garlic powder, and black pepper. In another bowl, beat eggs until smooth. Place breadcrumbs in a third bowl.
- Dip each petal in the flour mixture, then in the egg wash, and finally coat with breadcrumbs.
- Lightly spray or brush oil on the coated onion and place it in the air fryer basket. Cook for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
- For dipping sauce, mix mayonnaise and ketchup together.
