- 9 lasagna noodles (no-boil or traditional)
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 15 oz ricotta cheese
- 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and gather all ingredients.
- In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and brown the ground beef. Drain excess fat, mix in marinara sauce, and let simmer.
- In a bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, salt, pepper, and half of the basil until smooth.
- In a baking dish, layer meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, mozzarella cheese. Repeat layers finishing with noodles topped with remaining meat sauce and cheeses.
- Cover with foil and bake for 25 minutes; remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden.
- Let cool for 10 minutes before serving garnished with remaining basil.
